Repair or Replace? What a New Motherboard Actually Costs
Most board faults are one failed component. Replacing the whole board is almost always avoidable — and typically costs three to five times more than repairing it. If repair genuinely is not viable, we will tell you so.

When repair is the right call
Single-component failures — a shorted MOSFET, a failed charging IC, a cracked BGA solder joint — are repaired for a fraction of board replacement cost. If your laptop is worth more than ₹15,000 and the fault is localised, repair almost always wins.
When replacement makes more sense
Severe multi-area corrosion from a long-untreated spill, physical cracking of the PCB, or unavailable proprietary components can make repair uneconomic. We diagnose honestly and will link you to our laptop and computer sales page when a new machine makes more sense.
Motherboard Faults We Repair
Every fault below is repaired at the component level in our Porvorim workshop — no board swaps, no sending out of Goa.
Laptop Completely Dead — No Power
No response when the power button is pressed, even with a working charger. This points to a power rail fault, a blown fuse, or a failed charging controller IC on the board. We trace the fault to the component level — not a board swap.
Powers On But No Display
Fan spins, power LED lights up, but the screen stays black — and an external monitor shows nothing either. This is classic GPU failure or chipset fault. It is the highest-value board diagnosis we see and almost always repairable at component level.
GPU and Chipset Reballing
Over time, solder joints between the GPU or chipset BGA package and the board crack under thermal stress. Reballing replaces all solder joints and restores reliable contact. We carry out BGA rework on-site using a dedicated rework station — boards are never shipped out of Goa.
Liquid Spill and Corrosion Damage
Water, coffee, or any liquid can bridge solder joints and cause corrosion that spreads rapidly. We disassemble the board, clean under magnification, neutralise corrosion and replace damaged components. Recovery rate is high when the board comes in quickly.
Short Circuits and Burnt Components
A short on a power rail kills the board and sometimes the charger. We locate the shorted component using a thermal camera and short-circuit injector, remove it, and restore the rail. Burnt resistors and MOSFETs are replaced individually.
Charging Circuit and DC Jack Faults
Laptop charges intermittently, or not at all despite a working adapter. This is usually the charging controller IC, a coil, or — for older models — the DC barrel jack. We repair the circuit rather than swap the board for a charging fault.
BIOS Corruption and Chip Reprogramming
A corrupted BIOS causes failure to POST, boot loops, or a completely unresponsive machine. We reprogram the BIOS chip in-circuit using a dedicated programmer. ME region repair and BIOS unlocking available where applicable.
Desktop and PC Motherboard Repair
Desktop boards fail differently — failed capacitors (the classic bulging cap plague), VRM component failures, bent CPU socket pins, and BIOS corruption from a failed CMOS battery. We repair all of these in-house.
How Chip-Level Repair Actually Works
Most repair shops can swap a part. Chip-level repair means reading a schematic, tracing a fault to a single component, and replacing it under magnification. Here is the process.
Visual & Microscope Inspection
We examine the board under a stereo microscope for burn marks, corroded traces, cracked solder joints, and physically damaged components before applying power.
Schematic Tracing & Voltage Measurement
Using the board schematic, we map the power rails and signal paths. A multimeter and oscilloscope locate the exact fault — a shorted rail, a missing voltage, or a misbehaving IC.
Component Replacement or BGA Rework
The failed component is removed and replaced. For GPU and chipset faults, we carry out BGA reballing — removing the IC, replacing every solder ball using a rework stencil, and reflowing it precisely.
Soak Testing Before Return
The repaired board runs under thermal stress for several hours before we return the device. We are testing for intermittent faults, not just successful POST.
Equipment we use
Stereo microscope for inspection and soldering, BGA rework station with hot-air and infrared, reballing stencils for all major GPU and chipset packages, BIOS programmer for in-circuit chip reprogramming. All chip-level board work is carried out in-house at our Porvorim workshop — ic reballing, BGA rework, and board-level repair are done here, not subcontracted to Mumbai or Nehru Place.
When a Board Cannot Be Saved
Not every board is repairable. We will tell you plainly when it is not — and diagnosis is always free.
- Severe corrosion spreading across multiple board layers after a long-untreated liquid spill.
- Physical cracking of the PCB itself, breaking internal copper traces.
- Unavailable proprietary ICs that cannot be sourced without a working donor board.
In these cases, we will walk you through your options — board replacement, a secondhand machine, or a new one from our laptop and computer sales range. If the board fault has destroyed your drive, we can also run data recovery before the machine is retired.
Board Repair for Other Repair Shops & IT Companies
Most repair shops in Goa cannot carry out board-level work and currently send boards to Mumbai or Nehru Place — adding days of transit risk and delay. We accept subcontract board work from other repair businesses across the state.
